Konstantin Mikhel shared Belarusian experience in creating a successful IT industry at the panel discussion "High-tech parks in Eurasia"

Konstantin Mikhel spoke at the panel discussion "High-tech parks in Eurasia", which took place on March 10, 2021. It was organized by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan, in collaboration with University of Central Asia (UCA) and StrategEast to discuss and explore the Eurasian experience in the creation of High Technology Parks. The audience of webinar were  ministries, committees, public and private organizations including representatives of development partners.  During the panel discussion, experts from Eurasia will share their experiences on the important factors to be considered while creating a High-Tech Park, including the required basic infrastructures, competence, technology, and legal framework. 

The discussion was moderated by Farhod Bilolzoda, Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Shaukat Ali Khan, Chief Information Officer of the University of Central Asia.

Among the participants in the discussion were:

  • Avtandil Kasradze, Chairman at Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency, Tech Park (Georgia). Topic: Creation of the IT industry in accordance with the model of public-private partnership. 
  • Dmytro Yeriomin, Member of the Supervisory Board of UNIT.City (Ukraine). Topic: How to build a high-tech park with funds from private investors.
  • Oleksandr Bornyakov, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Diia City Project (Ukraine). Topic: Creation of a fully virtual High Tech Park based on the model of a special legal regime.
  • Ana Chirita, Project Director at Tekwill (Moldova), executive director of ICT Association of Moldova. Topic: The role of international financial organizations and development institutions in the creation of the IT industry in Eurasia.

Konstantin Mikhel spoke on the topic “How a new industry was built in Belarus, with an average salary of $2,200, exporting products worth $2 billion a year.”. Konstantin spoke about the history and main stages of the creation of the HTP, the factors that played a decisive role in the rapid development of the IT industry in Belarus and important aspects that need to be taken into account in the future and adopted as an experience for other countries.
