VMP Vlasova Mikhel & Partners - partner of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition national round in Belarus.

On 27-29 January 2017 the national qualifying round of the Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held in Minsk. It is one of the most prestigious law students competitions, which is organized as a trial and is an imitation of the proceedings before the International Court. The competition is held around the world by the International Law Students Association (International Law Students Association - ILSA). Every year more than 2500 students from 700 law schools from 90 countries are taking part in the qualifying rounds to win the right to represent his country at the finals in Washington.

This year, in the Belarusian national qualifying round 9 teams from 5 Belarusian universities took part. There were teams of the Faculty of Law and Faculty of International Relations of BSU, as well as the team from Brest, Grodno, Mogilev, Polotsk universities. Judges of the Belarusian national selection round were known foreign practitioners and professors, representatives of the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the CIS Economic Court, as well as partners and lawyers of the Belarusian law firms and law offices.

VMP Vlasova Mikhel & Partners acted as one of the partners of the contest, and VMP lawyers Andrew Usov and Natalia Kozintseva participated in the panel of judges. Andrew Usov handed to the Brest State University team Spirit of Jessup Award, which is awarded to the most friendly and open team of the National Round of the other teams voting results.

   

Starting from 2016 national round administrator of Jessup compatition is the Belarusian Association of International Law and Arbitration, which in a short time managed to revive the contest, to increase the number of participants in the national rounds, make the finals of two teams from our country instead of one. Belarusian Association of International Law and Arbitration was awarded by the prestigious award S.Schneebaum Award for outstanding organization of the competition.
