Updates on Restrictive Measures Against “Unfriendly” States
Amendments have been introduced to the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On the Application of Special Restrictive Measures”:
- the scope of entitiesto which special restrictive measures may be applied has been expanded — these now include specific foreign states and/or specific foreign companies and individuals;
- banks are granted the right to suspend banking transactions and/or refuse to carry them out, as well as to unilaterally refuse to conclude or perform agreements on banking operations.
If special restrictive measures are introduced against specific foreign companies or individuals, compliance with such measures will be mandatory for Belarusian organizations and citizens, as well as for foreign organizations subject to the law of the Republic of Belarus (branches, representative offices) and foreign citizens located on the territory of Belarus.
The amendments enter into force on 14 March 2026.
